Fiji's border control has strict rules on what visitors can bring into the country. The majority of restricted or prohibited items are those which pose a threat to the health and biosecurity of the country. For this reason, it’s best to be mindful about what you pack in your luggage and know what to declare when arriving in Fiji. For general Customs guidelines, use the link, below.
You will be given a Passenger Arrival Card in the airplane to fill out. Under "reason for visit" please indicate that you are guests visiting the Mission at Natuvu Creek, or you can indicate that you are on holiday. Do not indicate that you are doing volunteer "work" as the term "work" can elicit a request for a temporary work permit, which you do not need given the amount of time you will be volunteering in Fiji and that you are not earning income.
Please do not bring home shells, coral, plants, or a sprouting coconut as these will be confiscated and you could incur a hefty fine if undeclared.
If you will be bringing equipment, medications or supplies for donation (thank you!), you will also need to fill out a Customs Declaration form that we will file with Airport Authority and Customs. THIS FORM NEEDS TO BE FILED A WEEK TO 10 DAYS IN ADVANCE OF YOUR TRIP. Customs will delay you and possibly take or tax your supplies if the form isn’t filed with them in advance. For "Lodgment Date" please use your arrival date to Fiji. Please fill out the form, below, and return it by email to janet@natuvu.org.
